Arno van Roosmalen was educated in Groningen in social geography, art and architecture history where he also ‘learned-by-doing’ as organizer, curator, musician, composer and administrator. He worked as a curator for art institutions in Rotterdam (Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, TENT) and as director of Stroom (agency for public art) in The Hague. He works as an advisor, (artistic) director, author and coach for several municipalities and organizations in the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as a writer, teacher, and freelance curator (including the Dutch Pavilion at the Biennale di Venezia).
