Raluca Doroftei is a cultural manager and curator. She supports the promotion of Romanian artists and contemporary Romanian art in international contexts through her work at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Bucharest (from 2008 to 2011; since 2015 to present) and at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid (between 2011 and 2015).
She is interested in personal histories, and lately she focused her research on artistic production in marginal communities and how artists and members of local communities collaborate / interact in order to produce works of art that revive places and local customs with a historical significance.
In 2017, she co-curated an ample exhibition about the activity of the 2META Romanian artistic group, which took place at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest. Since 2018, as part of Meta Cultural Foundation cine-residency program in Slon, Raluca Doroftei is the Romania’s emerging curator for the Creative Europe platform MagiC Carpets, an artist exchange platform connecting 13 partners’ organizations across Europe.
In 2006, she initiated along with Stela Lie and young illustrators the Illustrators Club, promoting the artist's book and illustration. Between 2007 and 2009, she was part of the board of Atelier 35 gallery in Bucharest; among the projects initiated we mention "Atelier 35 about Atelier 35", a project about the history / archive of the Atelier 35 gallery, dedicated to The Union of Visual Artists aged under 35. In 2011, together with a group of enthusiastic and idealistic young people, but eager to create a community with people just like them, Raluca Doroftei developed the Incubator 107 project, a space where anyone can teach anybody, anything.
