Rike Sitas, a senior researcher at the African Centre for Cities at the University of Cape Town, is an inter-disciplinary feminist urban scholar on the humanities side of social science, straddling sociology, human geography, cultural studies, and urban design. Her research focuses on three areas. The first revolves around the role of art, culture, and heritage in urban justice and sustainability with a particular focus on urban/cultural policy, public space, and cultural citizenship. The second concentrates on culture and technology and African cities, with a particular focus on youth, democratic decision-making, new models of service delivery and the future of work. The third focuses on experimental research methods including arts-based research, collaboration and coproduction, and intersectional feminist and other approaches.
